Matt Godard


Matt grew up in the Syracuse area his whole life and loves the city. Consequently, he chose to remain in the area and pursue his passion for coffee. Matt enjoys making drinks in any of the cafes. When he is not at work he enjoys his down time at home with his wife and three kids. Becky BenedictBecky Benedict

-VP of Retail / Regional Manager

Becky has lived in Syracuse all of her life and grew up around family that seemed to always be drinking coffee. However, it wasn’t until she joined the Cafe Kubal team in May 2011 that she gained a true appreciation and love for the beverage. Becky has a bachelors degree in Illustration from Syracuse University. Outside of managing the cafe, Becky likes to spend time with her family and friends and attempting to create things through writing, illustrating, and knitting. Christina iTing TroutChristina iTing Trout

- VP of Operation / Marketing Director

Christina grew up in Taipei, a city that has a cafe on almost every street corner. She relocated to Syracuse where she received her MFA in Video Art at SU. In the Fall of 2011, Christina met with Matt Godard who offered her a wonderful opportunity to learn about the coffee industry. Christina oversees Cafe Kubal’s print media, retail design, online presentation as well as social media marketing. In addition to all of the fun projects she gets to do at Kubal, Christina designs wedding/party invitations on the side. Jake ThurstonJake Thurston

-Wholesale Account Manager

Jake grew up in a rural town East of Syracuse. He comes from a long line of farm owners and has a deep connection with the growth, and distribution of food to its end consumer. He is deeply passionate about the idea of Farm to Table. That is what attracted Jake to Café Kubal.  Cafe Kubal’s motto of Crop to Cup drives Jake everyday to become an innovator in the coffee industry. He has been in many different roles as a company representative but has found his home with Café Kubal’s business and mission. Jake strives to delight his customers with his coffee knowledge and expertise. Jake is a family man, classically trained musician, and an avid outdoorsman. Jakes favorite drink at this moment is a toss up between an Ethiopian pour-over or the traditional Italian Cappuccino. Contact Jake at Jake@cafekubal.com

Peter PullenPeter Pullen

- Roaster 

Peter grew up in Pennsylvania. The cafe environment has always been a part of his life, starting at the dinner table where his family shared tea, coffee, and conversations with people from around the globe.  He received a professional degree of architecture from Syracuse University in 2011 and found that working at a local coffee company was a great opportunity to pursue his interests in design, illustration, and particularly coffee. If he’s not at work, he’s somewhere in the city sketching or reading a book. Favorite Kubal beverage: Kenyan Pour-Over (Sumatra if he’s being philosophical) or a 12oz latte. Taylor RandolphTaylor Randolph

- Eastwood Cafe Manager 

Growing up dancing at Light of the World Ballet, Taylor frequently stopped by the Eastwood Cafe after classes. She had always admired the barista’s skills at Cafe Kubal, so much so that she was inspired to learn the skills herself. In the Spring of 2012, Taylor finally joined the Kubal team. After a year of hard work between the cafe and school, Taylor was promoted to be one of the managers. She’s now managing the original cafe that has the most customer interaction (which she loves) before pursuing the rest of her bachelor study in business. Cheryl MusecarellaCheryl Muscarella

-Downtown Cafe Manager 

Cheryl grew up on Otisco Lake. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at SUNY Oswego. She was a barista for three years before working at Cafe Kubal. She has always been intrigued by the way coffee and the coffee culture bring people together, to discuss ideas, and to share life.  She loves seeing people as they greet the day, and feels honored to be able to be a part of that as she serves them their coffee beverage. Her fondest memory of coffee is when, on a steamy summer night, her mother allowed her (as a child) to enjoy an iced coffee with (mostly) cream and sugar as she had hers. Her mother has been gone for 17 years now, but she still thinks of her when she takes her first sip. Her favorite beverage is a Brazil pour over, with Sumatra as a close second.

Amanda Thomas

-Syracuse University Cafe Manager

Amanda grew up in Syracuse, and joined the Kubal team shortly after she moved back in 2013. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Art History from Binghamton University, where she specialized in Medieval and Early Modern Studies. Amanda has always loved coffee, and is fascinated by coffee culture. She loves the history of coffee and the coffeehouse. Amanda believes that coffee creates community and is proud to be a part of such an amazing café in her hometown. Nathan LaffertyNathan Lafferty

-Medical Center West Cafe Manger

Nate grew up in Camden, NY and moved to Syracuse three years ago.  He is the manager of Kubal’s cafe in Medical Center West which is in Camillus. Outside of work he enjoys volunteering and leading worship at Believer’s Chapel, playing basketball and ultimate frisbee. He also enjoys going to NYC and tries to go at least once a month. Favorite Kubal drink: cappuccino or an iced coffee.
